DJ Quik ON RAPCITY1CHANNEL

David Marvin Blake (born January 18, 1970), better known by his stage name DJ Quik, is an American rapper, actor, and record producer. According to Quik himself, his stage name reflects his ability to produce records in a short period of time.

Blake was born on January 18, 1970 in Compton, California. He was chiefly inspired by funk and soul artists, such as Roger Troutman (who even taught him the use of the talkbox, which became a trademark for Quik's sound throughout his career) and George Clinton. Out of respect for his beloved friend, Roger Troutman, he retired the talkbox. David's love for music began at 2, as his mother had an extensive record collection. By age 12 he was already playing instruments, and by the age of 21, he was a platinum-selling artist.

He began selling homemade mixtapes (notably The Red Tape, 1987) after he received a turntable for his 9th grade graduation. He then began doing shows DJing around Southern California, many of which ended in rival gang related altercations. He was a member of the Westside Tree Top Piru Bloods. In the 11th grade, Quik dropped out of high school. For a period of about three years he was homeless after his mother lost her home, due to foreclosure. He would later go on to say that after his success in the rap world many of his family members "popped up"

Tony! Toni! Toné! featuring DJ Quik - Let's Get Down

© 1996 Mercury Records. Song by American Soul/R&B group '' Tony! Toni! Toné! ''. From fourth studio album by Tony! Toni! Toné! : House Of Music (1996). Tony! Toni! Toné! is an American Soul/R&B group from Oakland, California, popular during the late 1980s and early to mid 1990s. During the band's heyday, it was composed of Dwayne Wiggins on lead vocals and guitar, his brother Raphael Saadiq (born Charles Ray Wiggins) on lead vocals and bass, and their cousin Timothy Christian Riley on drums and keyboards. Other members were Elijah Baker, Carl Wheeler, Randall Wiggins, and Amar Khalil, who is the current lead singer of the group, and Antron Haile.

Originally, the band went by "Tony, Toni, Tone" as a joke, until they realized it had a nice ring to it.

House of Music is the fourth studio album by American R&B group Tony! Toni! Toné!, released November 19, 1996, on Mercury Records. It is the follow-up to their critically and commercially successful 1993 album Sons of Soul. Recording sessions for the album took place at various recording studios during 1995 to 1996, with production handled primarily by the group members. The album was named after a record store in the group's native Oakland, California.

Following their hiatus as a group, Tony! Toni! Toné! members Raphael Saadiq, D'wayne Wiggins, and Timothy Christian Riley worked on songs for the album independently before putting together their finished recordings. Collectively, they sought to emphasize musicianship rather than production technique during the sessions. House of Music expands on their previous work's traditional R&B influences with live instrumentation and balladry. Music writers have noted the album for its incorporation of traditional and contemporary musical styles, themes of love and romance, and witty, sensitive lyrics.

The album reached number 32 on the US Billboard 200, on which it charted for 31 weeks. It was certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Upon its release, House of Music received general acclaim from music critics, who praised its musical style, classic influences, and the group's musicianship and songwriting. An expected international tour in support of the album did not materialize and it proved to be the group's last album together, as they subsequently disbanded due to creative differences and pursued separate music careers.
